General Description

The sensorless 3-phase BLDC-controller board is a 1-quadrant controller and driver for brushless 3-phase DC motors with outputs of max. 75 watts for speed control. In its current design, this type of electronic device is primarily purposed as evaluation board! There is a special switch mode for the generation of intermediate circuit voltage on the same print. This permits the use of a simple supply unit with transformer setting, bridge rectifier and electrolytic capacitor with 1000uF. Therefore, in certain applications an expensive regulated supply unit for feeding is no longer necessary. This also results in a better overall efficiency of a drive line system! Onboard, the driver holds a trim-pot for speed adjustment, if there is no possibility to set the speed by external control voltage on plug X3. If very stable speed is required even if the load on the motor axle is indeterminate, a PI-control (proportional and integrating control) must be added on X3. In this case, a frequency clock delivers information about the actual speed of the motor and an analogue control signal serves for adjustment setting at Pin 7 (0...5VDC). In addition, the current signal of the output stage is applied at Pin 4 of the X3-plug.
The total current of the phase currents produces a voltage of 100mV/1A. The driver has been tested on various maxon motor ag 3-phase BLDCmotors (EC 22, EC 32). The sensorless driver can be used at electric coils with star or delta connection.
